As Christians, how should we view the OT Law?

Viewing the Old Testament Law as a generous gift from Yahweh emphasizes its purpose and significance in the life of believers. The Law is seen as a reflection of God's character and His desire for humanity to live in harmony with His will. It provides guidelines for moral living, worship, and community relationships, helping people understand what is pleasing to God.

This perspective also highlights the idea that the laws were given with a loving intention to guide and protect His people. By framing the Law in this way, Christians can appreciate the historical and spiritual context of the commandments and laws while recognizing their lasting value and the principles behind them that inform Christian ethics today.

In contrast, seeing the Law merely as a historical document diminishes its relevance and the divine authority it holds in the life of believers. Viewing it as a burden suggests an unwillingness to embrace its teachings, while regarding it as outdated and irrelevant ignores the continuity between the Old and New Testaments and the fulfillment of the Law in the teachings of Jesus. Understanding the Law in the context of it being a generous gift encourages a deeper engagement with its teachings as a means to live out God’s desires in a modern context.
